About CIMTEC

Canada is known throughout the world for its expertise in medical imaging research and development. Academic centres and spin-off companies are developing world-leading technologies that will change how we diagnose and treat disease. The Centre for Imaging Technology Commercialization (CIMTEC) exists to facilitate the commercialization of this important and world-leading technology, so that Canadians can reap the health and economic benefits of these imaging innovations.

CIMTEC’s vision is “to be a driving force in the advancement and growth of the Canadian medical imaging technology sector.

Its mission is “to enable and accelerate commercialization of medical imaging innovations, ensuring that Canada’s investment in imaging technology translates into economic growth and job creation.

CIMTEC has three key goals:

1.       Support researchers and companies: Foster start-up and existing medical imaging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing them with the critically needed expertise, technical capabilities and infrastructure to allow them to grow, create Canadian high-tech jobs and become internationally competitive.

2.       Partnerships: Promote commercialization of imaging technology and attract investment from new sources through the cultivation of new strategic partnerships.

3.       Training: Create knowledge and skill advancement opportunities and produce highly qualified personnel with commercialization expertise who will drive the future translation of Canada’s imaging innovations.

To achieve these goals, CIMTEC offers key services, including commercialization advice, such as business planning, regulatory advice and referrals; technology development support, such as engineering design and prototype development; and technology validation, including benchmarking and assistance with clinical testing and trials.

CIMTEC is a not-for-profit corporation supported by Ontario provinical government through the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and the Government of Canada through the Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research program.
